Vanabadrakali Amman Temple, Mettupalayam

I with my family members went to Vanabadra kaliamman temple, Mettupalayam. Mettupalayam is around 30 km from Coimbatore and is on the route to Ooty. There are direct buses to this temple from Coimbatore. Otherwise one can come to Mettupalayam and take bus to Vanabadra kaliamman temple which is nearly 6 km from Mettupalayam and on the way to Thekampatti.

This temple is thousands of year old temple as it featured in the incidents of Mahabharatha.Main deity in this temple is Goddess Vanabadra kaliamman which is a Swayabomorthi. There are some beliefs associated with this goddess. It is believed that Sakthi penanced on Lord Shiva in this place which was a thick forest that time to gain strength to kill demon Mahishasura. Allimuthu with the blessings of this mother, ended the cruel rule of Aravalli-Suravalli. Bheema defeated the demon Bhakasura after seeking the blessings of this divine mother. Bakasura before dying prayed to this divine mother and asked for forgiveness and the mother made him Kaval Deivam
